Sabota Sensei training in Okinawa
Paul A. Sabota sensei began his martial arts training in Shorin Ryu karatedo & kobujutsu in June of 1987. Fast forward to May 2006, Sabota sensei was introduced to Akamine Yoshimatsu sensei of Okinawa. Sabota was a member of Akamine sensei's organization called the Okinawa Shorin Ryu Matsumura Seito Karate Do Hozon Kai Association from 2006 until 2020. Akamine sensei was a student of Soken Hohan O'sensei (founder of Shorin Ryu Matsumura Seito) for over twenty years until Soken O'sensei's death in 1982.
Sabota is celebrating his 33rd year in the martial arts this year!!!
From 2003 through 2006 Sabota taught students Imperial Crane Shorin Ryu Karatedo at Anne Arundel Community College in Arnold, Maryland as a non-credit college course. Since late August of 2007, Sabota has been conducting lessons in Imperial Crane Shorin Ryu Karatedo and Kobujutsu at a private dojo in Linthicum, Maryland.
Basically every other year from 2006-2018 Sabota traveled to Okinawa to train with Akamine sensei to refine and advance his kihon, kata, & kobudo. In August of 2011, Akamine sensei awarded Sabota the teaching certificate of Kiyoshi (see photo below). This teaching license permitted Sabota to be an official instructor and maintain a dojo of the Hozon Kai under Akamine sensei. In addition, it allowed him to teach Akamine sensei's Okinawan martial arts passed down from Soken Hohan O'sensei.
